EU-education: How to succeed in your advocacy work in Brussels

Registration is now open for New Republic's new training program in EU lobbying for Swedish energy companies – in collaboration with APCO, one of Brussels' largest agencies.

Would you like to gain a better understanding of EU decision-making processes, deepen your knowledge of what lies ahead in Brussels, and at the same time start building relationships with some of Europe's most experienced political actors? Then this is the course for you.

New Republic's EU training program for Swedish energy players is aimed at those who work strategically with energy policy, advocacy, and social issues—for example, at an energy company or in an industry organization. The program is specially designed for those who want to increase the impact of their advocacy work ahead of the 2026 Swedish election—through the right timing, the right message, and the right contacts at the EU level.

That is why we are doing this now

Up to 70 percent of Swedish legislation is currently directly affected by decisions made in Brussels. At the same time, the political map has been redrawn – both in Sweden and in the EU. The new Commission is expected to prioritize security, competitiveness, and energy, while large parts of the green agenda are to be negotiated and implemented. Who is in place – with the right skills and networks – will be decisive for which industries and issues gain traction.

The program in brief

The training is divided into two parts and is planned to take place in spring 2026 starting in March:

Part 1: Two half-days in Stockholm

March 18: A half-day training session with speakers from New Republic and invited guests. Focus on decision-making processes, practical influence, and current analysis in the energy sector (including climate/sustainability, preparedness, and competitiveness).

April 15: Another half-day with study visits to the Swedish Parliament and/or the Government Offices and the European Commission's office in Sweden. Participants will gain concrete insight into how Swedish EU monitoring and negotiations work.

Part 2: Study trip to Brussels

May 6–8: Three intensive days in Brussels. Meet key players from the European Parliament, the Commission, interest groups, and the Swedish representation. Case studies and networking dinners.
