"The government is working broadly to accelerate the pace of electrification."
2023-12-12
3 quick questions to Johan Davidson, State Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson, about the government's infrastructure investments.
What will be the most important decision during the mandate period?
- It is not possible to rank all decisions on the same scale, but the most important decision in economic terms will be the total framework for the upcoming infrastructure bill and the new national plan for 2026-2037.
How will the Government stimulate faster electrification of transport?
- The Government is working on a wide range of measures to increase the pace of electrification. New EU legislation is being supplemented with incentives, e.g. in vehicle tax, rules for preferential value and climate premiums for buses and trucks, and soon for light trucks. The Government is working to ensure the expansion of charging infrastructure, including through investment support. The Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Energy Agency recently reported the assignment of an action program for the expansion, which we are now looking at. At the same time, a special investigator is analyzing the need for regulatory changes to remove obstacles to electrification.
Will the trains run on time at Christmas?
- As long as it does not depend on the weather or other external circumstances, there are good prerequisites. All departure times (train paths) have been released well in advance this year and so have the tickets.
