State secretary and economist at the Swedish Trade Union Confederation joins New Republic

2024-04-18

New Republic has recruited Sebastian de Toro as a consultant. His most recent position was State Secretary for Energy, Digitalisation and Migration. He has previously worked as an economist at the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) and as a management consultant.

Sebastian de Toro has 25 years’ experience in politics, business and civil society. He has a background as a secretary of state, a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and an LO economist.

‘New Republic stands out with its dual focus on transparency and advice on energy and sustainability issues. With my background, New Republic feels like a natural next step for me’, says Senior Consultant Sebastian de Toro.

Sebastian has previously served on the board of Folkets Hus och Parker and has public inquiry experience as Principal Secretary to a government inquiry into over-indebtedness.

‘Geopolitical turmoil and volatility are rapidly changing business conditions. Transformative sustainable investments that build Sweden’s future competitiveness depend on clear rules and an understanding of political drivers. Sebastian knows these processes and will bring valuable knowledge, especially in sectors where political regulations affect investment and future values’, says Founding Partner Johannes Hylander.

Sebastian de Toro holds a degree of master of science in business and economics from the Stockholm School of Economics. He joined New Republic on 15 April.
